SINGING BIRDS

SIZE : 100 cm x 20 cm

MEDIUM : Bronze, Copper.

Birds In continuation of the series of works I did with bird as the central theme , I created a pair of birds sitting on a stem of a large leaf communicating to one another . What it feels in one others company , what do they talk is beyond our understanding . But it leaves a mystical effect on us . To know its complete secret is impossible . It remains outside the human intellect to know it fully . The only knowledge which comes closer to understanding nature is art . The fleeting moments in nature leaves an indelible mark on us . This sculpture is an attempt to bring such a moment to an aesthetic experience . Made of bronze and copper sheet , tried to create a symmetrical balance between the birds and the leaf . The smallness of the birds in comparison to the leaf gives a delicate feel to the work .

BUBBLE A series of two works it depicts a fragile and transitory world , a world filled with wonders of nature . It is a recollection of a childhood memory . A happiest moment of childhood is the discovery of nature and the effects it has on us to adulthood . This work depicts nature with hills , rivers , wonderful rare plants and dragonflies . A dream like quality is evoked by the use of highly polished steel which reflects things around it . I have placed a sphere in the middle of the work which acts as a mirror where the world I have created is reflected on it . The plants and dragonflies are made of copper and bronze . I have the work suspended to create fell of belief and disbelief .

WHERE TO GO

Medium     :Bronze

Size            :12 in x 4 in x 4 in

It is an abstraction of our journey to the unknown. Life is an unresolved puzzle. 'Where do we come from what are we, where are we going' is modernist preoccupation. The lone figure climbing on a thin rope to somewhere or nowhere symbolizes for me the modernist angst.

BOUNDRY

Size        : 50 cm x 50 cm x 50 cm

Medium : SS & Bronze.

Raising the existential questions has been a constant preoccupation from my early works onwards. This work titled ' Boundary ' is part of that continuum. A lone man surrounded by invisible boundaries of wall is the subject. Knowledge one accumulates through his or her life time instead becoming a tool to connect or of being a help to others becomes a wall one builds around oneself. In this process a history one tenaciously builds becomes redundant because knowledge no longer becomes a means but rather an end this is a suspended sculpture made of bronze and steel.

NATURE AND LIFE

Size         : 27 x 19 x 5 inch.

Medium  : Bronze, Copper, Iron.

A man sits within a frame, the innermost one, in the second frame (the middle one) sits a bird on a branch and on the third frame, the outermost one, there is a boat on waves and a cloudy moon. This is a hanging sculpture. I wanted to create an image of a man contemplating on nature. There is inherent romanticism in this work. I have always been moved by the works of romantic artists like Caspar Fredrick and William Blake. The figure of a lone man and nature. The silent communication between them. I have purposefully created the frames to show the boundaries we have created with the outer world. Yet these boundaries are not separate ones, they are interconnected and accessible.

SITTING IN A FRAME

The work is about the narrow constraints which humans have made for themselves. The limitation he has set for himself has made him not to realize the open world in front of him. He is not able to take the plunge, frightened he holds himself dearly to the frame he has created for himself. I have shown the space between limit and limitless is thin. It is just a step away for a new possibility.

Ants  These ants are installed in  Crowne Plaza Chennai Adyar Park hotel ,Chennai. Ants - It is the series of work done with ants as subject. Ants collecting food in unity is part of our collective consciousness . The act of sharing food with one another is a religious experience, Art's essentially function is to share the act of sharing and union becomes a strong metaphor for this work . The idea of the micro becoming the macro takes centre stage, I have purposefully made this work large, dimensions being 300 cms by 600 cms and mounted it on wall, it is to bring the smallest being i.e ant into our immediately noticeable visible world What was stuck in a remote corner of our consciousness suddenly becomes a larger reality. A reality we have to confront and engage with. To give a feel of earthliness I have made the sculpture in brass and copper.   Hindu Article:   https://www.thehindu.com/entertainment/art/maria-antony-raj-on-his-award-winning-sculpture/article38018960.ece Various t

I primarily work with various materials like metals, bronze, copper, clay, thread, plastics, woods etc. I basically work with forms which are supplemented by materials, nature and expression; the core idea underlying the work is wind, air, water and earth. The use of material forms, signs, symbols which work as a metaphor in my work. To certain extent to overcome the limitation of the medium, use ephemeral material such as plastics, cotton, thread etc. Mobile sculpture needs much technical understanding and simplified clear thought so that idea can be communicated in much intense way.  My mobile sculpture is on perfect balance so that it will have just a right, subtle movement, but not lose its form in the space. Mobile sculpture has a better connectivity or transaction with the space around. They are more vocal as they alter dimension in the space. I portray my self as outsider, who hangs between wisdom and chaos, harmony and discord. Life Is suspended between superficial and deep ha
